Railway Adventures Across Australia

Winning its prime time slot of 7.30pm on a Saturday night, Railway Adventures was also Channel 10's highest rating weekend programme. The series continues to be screened around the world having been sold into most global territories. And the plaudits keep coming…

The New York-based distributor; ‘Tapestry International’ sold the series onto the Travel Channel and various other international networks including a PBS broadcast of a six-hour version plus a two-hour cut down special prior to the 2000 Olympics. Reader’s Digest sold in excess of 135,000 VHS tapes internationally of the series, making it one of their most successful Australian-based releases.

The ‘FFC’(Film Finance Corporation) recognises this as one of the most successful documentary series they have funded. The series also won various awards including a Golden camera award in the US International film & television awards held in 2000.

Railway Adventures focused on Australian destinations and explored their history and characters. The series successfully tapped into the romance of rail travel and the wealth of stories told by some amazing individuals, host Scott McGregor met along the way.

It appealed to a broad demographic with fan mail flooding in from 5-year-old Thomas the Tank Engine obsessed boys, to an older generation who remembered when rail travel was an essential part of life.
